Creative Attribution That Pays

Proteus uses AI to analyze creative works and identify who influenced what. It builds a living map of how ideas flow through culture - an attribution graph - then automatically splits payments based on degrees of influence.

When someone creates something influenced by your work, you automatically receive a percentage of what they earn. When their work influences others, you earn from those too. Your creative contribution becomes a revenue stream that compounds over time, growing as your influence spreads.

This isn't theory. The technology exists today. AI can analyze creative works and identify specific influences with remarkable accuracy. It can measure semantic similarity, stylistic choices, and structural patterns. Analysis engines can build graphs showing exactly who influenced whom and by how much. And algorithms can route micropayments to thousands of creators simultaneously using modern payment infrastructure.

The pieces are all here. Nobody's put them together yet in a way that can truly benefit creators.

How It Works

You create something - a story, an image, a song, a video. You submit it to Proteus. Proteus analyzes it and identifies the distinctive creative elements that make it unique. Then it compares those elements against everything else in the system, measuring similarity across multiple dimensions. It identifies your influences - the works that inspired you - and calculates how much each one contributed.

When people consume your work, payments split automatically: you get paid for your original contribution, and your influences get paid for theirs. When someone creates a derivative of your work, you earn from theirs the same way.

Over time, an attribution graph emerges showing how creativity flows through culture. Every creator earns continuously from their influence, not just their direct output. The more your work influences others, the more you earn. Forever.

The Market Opportunity

This is infrastructure for the creative economy, and the creative economy is massive and growing. It was $104 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach $480 billion by 2027. But Proteus doesn't just serve creators, it serves consumers as well by giving them deeper choices and filters that do not exist today. Plus, AI-assisted creations are making the creator/consumer distinction almost meaningless these days.

More importantly, this idea is about creating a new market that doesn't currently exist: the derivative attribution market. Right now, there's nothing flowing from derivatives to original creators. This is not about fighting for a share of existing revenue - this is about creating an entirely new revenue stream.

Why This Works Now

AI makes attribution possible. Five years ago, analyzing creative influence required expert human judgment which is expensive, subjective, and doesn't scale. Today, AI can identify specific creative elements, match against corpus, and score similarity with high confidence. The technology finally exists to solve this problem.

AI makes attribution necessary. In 5-10 years, most creative content will be AI-generated. When ChatGPT writes a story or Midjourney creates art, who deserves credit? Everyone whose work trained the model and influenced the output. Without attribution infrastructure, AI companies extract all the value. With Proteus, human creators can earn from every AI-generated derivative of their work - even without huge licencing deals or paywalls to control access.

Payment infrastructure exists. Internal tokens enable micropayments at scale. I can split a $0.20 cent consumption event across dozens of creators with negligible transaction cost. This wasn't possible five years ago.

Timing is perfect. AI companies are facing billions in lawsuits right now because they can't attribute or compensate training data. The New York Times, Getty Images, authors guilds - all suing because there's no solution. Proteus becomes that solution.

The Vision

I am close to a working MVP. The core attribution technology is built and tested. I can extract creative elements from images and text using AI. Next step is to generate similarity scores and build attribution graphs.

Short-term: Discovery platform where consumers explore attribution graphs, creators submit works. Seed the corpus with public domain content.

Mid-term: Payment system where derivative earnings exceed direct consumption for influential works

Long-term: Shift creative culture from "protect what I made" to "celebrate what we're making together"

Moonshot: Proteus becomes infrastructure for the entire AI creative economy - platform fees route to training data sources, ensuring human creators benefit as AI amplifies their work
